The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) PRIME US Open of Surfing presented by Hurley and Nike 6.0 is just days away from kicking off its 2010 venue and with 33 ASP Dream Tour competitors in the men’s draw and the event boasting a women’s ASP 6-Star division, the highest level of professional surfing is guaranteed to unfold at South Huntington Beach Pier.

The 2010 US Open of Surfing is a marathon event that not only includes competitors from the Men’s ASP PRIME and Women’s ASP 6-Star event seeking ratings points to qualify for the prestigious ASP Dream Tour, but also holds the ASP Grade-2 US Open Junior Pro, which will showcase the nation’s finest men's and women's ASP Pro Junior talent hunting for a position of the inaugural ASP World Junior Tour.

The 1st Annual Canadian Surf Film Festival (CSFF) will take place at the Empire Park Lane Cinemas in Halifax, Nova Scotia From September 30 to October 2, 2010.

Created by four Nova Scotian surfers, the CSFF will be a celebration of surf films and Canadian surf culture. The three-day event will include screenings, presentations and receptions.

“When I hear about a surf film screening in town, I get excited,” says Keith Maddison, CSFF co-founder. “Everyone shows up and is stoked to be there. So we wanted to create an event around surf films in our community.”

Billabong announces the eighth edition of the most expected big wave event of the region, the "Billabong Pico Alto Invitational 2010 ". This year, the waiting period for this classic event will run from July 15th to August 31st.

Since last year the Billabong Pico Alto event forms part of the Big Wave World Tour (BWWT), being the second one of this important circuit. The BWWT is organized by Gary Linden, renowned shaper and big wave surfer.

Ty Watson (NSW/Currarong/Sth Coast) won his first ever ASP Australasian Pro Junior Series event by taking out the Fantastic Noodles Pro Junior in powerful surf at Waitpinga Beach in South Australia.

“It’s the best feeling to finally win an ASP Pro Junior event” said Watson.

“This is my final year on this series and coming into this event, with just three events remaining I’ve had it on my mind to really try and win one – I’ve made finals and semi-finals but until today have not nailed a win and it just feels great.”

The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Cordoama Buondi Pro 1-star Men’s Star-Series event ran through to complete round one of competition at the main contest site of Praia de Cordoama. After waiting for conditions to improve with the incoming tide event officials gave the green light for this year’s edition of the Cordoama Buondi Pro to get underway.

Peaky 3ft (1m) waves were on offer for day one as the heavy cloud cover brought some relief after a week of extremely high temperatures here in Cordoama. Conditions were tough for the final heats as the cross-shore winds increased from the North.

Beyrick De Vries (Umhlanga) ran away with the biggest title in South African Pro Junior Surfing, claiming the 6A Surfing South Africa Mr Price Pro Ballito by defeating Chad Du Toit (Dbn) today.

A standout from start to finish, netting the event’s highest scores to reach the final, De Vries rode a wave of confidence producing another spectacular performance to pocket the R12 000 winners cheque.

“I’m on top of the world right now,” De Vries said after his win. “I saw the way Chad was surfing throughout the event and I knew that it would be the two of us in the final. He almost came back in the end there but luckily I got the best waves and the best scores.”

The waiting period for the Billabong Pico Alto Invitacional is set for July 12th to August 11th, 2010.

The Pico Alto event will be the second event on this season Big Wave World Tour after the Quiksilver Ceremonial in Chile.

Invited to the event are the top 12 local chargers and the top 12 of the 2009/2010 Big Wave World Tour.

Australia’s Julian Wilson has won the 6 star rated Association of Surfing Professionals SriLankan Airlines Pro in flawless 4 to 6 feet surf on an epic final day.

Wilson came into this event courtesy of a wild-card from the sponsor and throughout the event he dominated, continually posting the day’s highest scoring rides and took a deserved win over 19 year-old USA surfer Nat Young.

Yet again we were blessed with amazing sun & fun contestable waves for this years Gul Night Surf event at Fistral beach, Newquay.

The event kicked off on Friday with the evening host to a pretty fierce SUP battle as the tide pushed up.

In near darkness Tim Mellors, Elliot Dudley, Alex Murray & Chris ‘Guts’ Griffiths battled it out, briefly appearing as they came within the floodlit inside section. It was that good looking welsh god Chris Griffiths who beat his fellow countryman Elliot along with Tim Mellors & Alex Murray into 1st place.

The world’s largest action sports festival wouldn’t be complete without an all-star event. And at this year’s U.S. Open of Surfing, held July 31-August 8 at the Huntington Beach Pier, we’ll see the return of the World Professional Surfers (WPS) All Stars.

Last year, fans voted online for their favorites and were then able to watch eight icons — including Kelly Slater, Andy Irons, Mick Fanning, CJ Hobgood and Rob Machado — perform live in both the main event and in two specialty expression sessions. Not only did it help amplify Huntington’s stadium atmosphere to unprecedented levels, but it honored those surfers who continue to move the sport forward.
